For the rear 60, you'll either have to cut down either your shaft or the one out of the parts truck as the 60 has a longer snout than the 9.25 corporate axle you presently have. Feb 20, 2011 · I remember reading about a guy wanting to make his 1/2 ton in to a 3/4 ton. The only real way would be to take the f250 take the body off and put the f150 on. A much more cost effective way is upgrading the innards of the rear differential, putting in a few more leaves, and a good set of shocks. Reply Like. Kefid11, 12:46 AM.

The 1/2 ton axles have a sealed bearing which is a semi-floating axle, which puts all the weight on the bearings. The 3/4, 1 ton have a full floating axle which puts the weight on the axle and not the bearings. Which is why they can haul/carry more.
