May 17, 2021 · The term "3/4 ton truck" is actually a bit of a misnomer. Modern pickup trucks usually fall into 3 categories: 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, and 1-ton trucks. These terms were invented many years ago to refer to the payload capacity of trucks. The classification stuck though, so we still refer to trucks with these descriptions.
