All 289-302-351w heads have the same size ports a valves size, the only deference is the chamber volume changes. there is a few exception, gt-40 head have bigger valve, 351w from 69-73 have bigger valves and intake ports, 86 heads have high-swirl/ fast burn chamber.

It requires no mods to run, and even with the big valves, you can go to a 520 lift with over 230 degrees with out flycutting the pistons.

A lot of folks throw aftermarket heads, cam and intake and intake on a stock, healthy, 302 bottom end and it survives just fine. really the deciding factor is your budget.
