Milkha Singh is an former athlete and field sprinter who was born in Lyallpur, Punjab, British India. He has won the gold medal in Commonwealth Games which was held at 1958 Asian Games in 200 meter and 400 meter race. Milkha singh is famous by the name of “The Flying Sikh”. Later he represent india in 1960 olympics games which was held in rome and he also participant in 1964 olympics held in tokyo. Milkha singh is also awarded with padam shri which is the fourth highest civilian awards for his achievement in sports.




Milkha Singh was born on 8th October 1935 in Lyallpur, Punjab. He has seen very difficult days from his childhood days. His parents were killed during the partition of india and pakistan. He was walk 10 km by his foot to reach school located in Kot Addu tehsil. Later he was migrated to india and he applied in indian army but he got rejected. After rejected three times for army his brother milkhan singh get him job in Electrical Mechanical Engineering department of army that time he took participate in sports. There he meet Havaldar Gurdev Singh who become his mentor by seeing his potential as an athlete. He trained hard everyday to become a great track field sprinter. After his retirement he will appoint as an Director of Sports in punjab area.

Milkha Singh is tied knot with Former Volleyball Team Captain Nirmal Kaur. The couple has blessed with three daughter and one son name jeev milkha singh who is an golfer by profession.He also adopted a son named Havildar Bikram Singh who died at the battle of tiger hill.
