Mary Kom is a Indian boxer who was born in Kangathei, Manipur, India. She is the only woman who has won five times World Amateur Boxing champion and six times world championships. For achieving this great success she was nicknamed as “Magnificent Mary”. She is also qualified for competing the flyweight and won the Bronze Medal. She has won the Gold Medal in boxing at the Asian Games held in Incheon, South Korea.
Mary Kom was born in 1st March 1983 in Kangathei, Manipur, India. She is daughter of Mangte Tonpa Kom and Mangte Akham Kom. In siblings she has two brother and two sisters. She has completed her primary education from Loktak Christian Model High School, St. Xavier Catholic School, Adimjati High School. She has completed her graduation from Churachandpur College. She has passion of sports and athletics from her childhood days. Her inspiration of becoming a boxer was Dingko Singh who has won the gold medal in boxing at asian games in 1988. She later trained boxing under M. Narjit Singh who is an state level boxing player. She later participate in Women’s World Boxing Tournament in Tonsberg and won the title by defeating Xia Li of China by RSCO-2.
